Segunda Dia!

Hola! Es necesario que mi escriba esta en todos espanol? Probablamente, para es imposible hora. Por hora, esta en spanglish. :)

Today I woke up and our maid, Yolanda made me breakfast. (A roll, an apple (la manzana), coffee (cafe con leche) and orange juice(juego de naranja) Then she walked me to the bus and we went off to school. Mi madra, Maria del Carmen y mi hermano, Mateo met us on el autobus and went the rest of the way to school with me. It takes about 45 minutes (cuarenta y cinco minutos) for me to get to school. The campus of USFQ is beautiful! All the buildings look different and are fun different colores. The landscape is great as well, there is a fantastic view (vista de fantastico) from one of the gardens. We had a few lectures on the history of Ecuador and then one on safety. I think its safe to say they left a serious impression on most of us to keep up awareness, confidence, ect through out our stay here in Quito. We met our teachers as well. Turns out, we are basically having private tutored classes. Our 200 level class is only the 5 of us from Ole Miss who signed up for the course. Starting tomorrow my class starts at 930 and ends at 12. This week we will probably eat lunch at the school- they had some great looking food in there. And then have free time the rest of the afternoon and night. In two weeks we are going to the Tiputini Diversity Station where there is apparently the largest concentration of biodiversity in the world. We'll stay there for a week to study the animals and ecology of the rain forest, ect. I'm excited about seeing all the different monkeys and birds- not as excited about the alleged 6 inch flying cockroaches. My Spanish is still terrible, I can barely communicate with my host mother but I'm just hoping it will get better with time. I am determined not to get sick although I know it is probably inevitable. I have been taking a horses worth of vitamins every morning and washing my hands like a mad man. I'm still hesitant to eat or drink a lot. We have boiled water here which I have been drinking and have felt no side effects yet so I'm assuming its fine. However, after school tomorrow I may go to the grocery store and stock up on some granola bars. We got some reccomendaciones today from a nice girl from North Carolina who works at USFQ for restaurants and bars so hopefully we can test those out later this week. As for now I'm still acclimating y un poco cansado (a little tired). Walking up the hill to my house this afternoon I thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest! The thin air is hard to get used to. I also met some kids from Georgetown and Mizzou today. The guys from georgetown apparently arent allowed to speak in english at all which is mas stupido if you ask me but they seemed muy simpatica and hopefully once they get a few cervezas they will speak in english so we can actually talk. I guess that is all for today, I am going to take un poco siesta and wake up around 9 which is when we eat dinner! Adios amigos!

Primera Dia

I am here yay! The plane ride was not bad at all, we got stuck just sitting on the runway for an additional hour once we landed but 6 hours feels like nothing compared to 13 from last summer. My host parents, picked me up at the airport and we hopped in a taxi and came to their lovely home. I met Maria, my sister who speaks english! And then I went to bed. I have my own room, tv and bathroom which is so nice, as well as a big closet and drawers. This morning I woke up, ate some cafe con leche y pan and walked with my mother, Maria to meet the rest of the students for the city tour. We went to the Old Town and walked around and saw four beautiful cathedrals. We also took a bus up to the highest point in Quito, The Virgin of Quito monument and saw the entire city, it was mas bonita! It has been so funny to hear about everyones host family experiences this far, I think we are all loving it! Now I am recovering and waiting until we eat dinner! We have orientation tomorrow at the University of San Fransisco Quito! I'm afraid I have forgotten my usb cord so I may not be able to upload pictures! I will try to get that fixed. Yo amo Ecuador!
